Robert M. Hershberg, MD, PhD
Executive Vice President/Head of Business Development and Global Alliances
Robert M. Hershberg, MD, PhD currently serves as Executive Vice President/ Head of Business Development and Global Alliances at Celgene Corporation. In this capacity, Rob serves as a member of the Executive Committee and is responsible for business development in all therapeutic areas within the Celgene portfolio. Prior to his current role, Rob served as Chief Scientific Officer at Celgene. He joined Celgene in August 2014 to lead the scientific and early clinical efforts in Immuno-Oncology (I-O), and established a Therapeutic Center of Excellence for I-O in Seattle.
Prior to joining Celgene, Rob was the President and Chief Executive Officer of VentiRx Pharmaceuticals, a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company, which he co-founded in 2006. Prior to co-founding VentiRx, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Dendreon Corporation, a biotechnology company, where he led the clinical, regulatory and biometrics groups, focusing on the development of Provenge® in metastatic prostate cancer. From 2001 to 2003, Rob was the Vice President of Medical Genetics at Corixa, a pharmaceutical company (acquired by GlaxoSmithKline in 2005).
Earlier in his career, Rob served as an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Physician at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He holds clinical and research faculty positions at the University of Washington School of Medicine and is a member of the board of directors of Adaptive Biotechnologies Corp., Nanostring Technology (NASDAQ: NSTG) and Silverback Therapeutics. He completed his undergraduate degree in molecular biology and medical degree (MD) at UCLA, and his PhD in biology at the Salk Institute.
Rachel Maguire, MPAff

Since 2006, Rachel has studied the intersecting and interacting forces shaping the future of how we learn, work, play and take care of one another. While her research efforts stem from her deep understanding of health care policy, her foresight work situates the future of health and health care within the context of external forces that are shaping the next decade. Rachel combines the linear trends affecting health and healthcare with larger technological, demographic and economic influences to better anticipate directional change in the future of self-care and clinical care.
Rachel has led numerous public engagements with organizations, including Capital One, Dell Technologies, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Philips Healthcare, examining the future of cities, emerging technologies, caregiving, and connected care. In addition, she has worked with dozens of clients to develop strategic foresight to help guide their organizations’ long-term planning. She is skilled in expert aggregation techniques, routinely facilitating workshops and panels of people with diverse backgrounds to discuss and debate future scenarios. To gather firsthand views of changing practices and beliefs, Rachel has designed and conducted ethnographic research on lead users and early adopters in the United States and Latin America.
Rachel has shared her perspective on the future of health and health care at IFTF and client events, as well as at numerous conferences including the Mayo Clinic Transform and Techonomy Health. In 2017, Rachel served as a judge for Celgene’s Innovation Impact Awards. She holds a BA in politics from Oberlin College and an MPAff (master of public affairs) from the University of Texas at Austin.
Senior Account Executive, Healthcare
David is a Senior Partner Lead in Google’s Healthcare Vertical. In his current role, David partners with some of the world’s largest healthcare companies to help them improve their digital marketing efforts. In this role, David works with companies on a wide variety of digital engagements including helping with organizational design, brand team strategy, and digital innovation efforts.
David has over 15 years’ experience working with the world’s largest healthcare organizations to understand the implications of health policy changes on commercial strategy. Immediately prior to Google, David spent 5 years at Pfizer, where he held a number of strategy and marketing roles, including leading a team charged with digitizing Pfizer’s US marketing efforts. Prior to Pfizer, David worked for Avalere Health and the Lewin Group.
