Incorporating the patient voice into pharmaceutical and biotech research and development is a hot topic in today’s health care environment. Patient advocates can, and in some cases already do, play a critical role in setting research priorities, designing clinical trials and structuring appropriate clinical engagement with industry.
Experts have gathered, meetings have been held and significant research has been conducted on the challenges and barriers to patient participation in research. A wealth of solutions have been outlined and great ideas have been proposed, but progress is slow. How can we move from discussion to decisive action?
The Celgene 2015 Innovation Impact award program seeks to transform dialogue into game-changing, tangible action resulting in the inclusion of the patient voice at every step of the drug discovery and development continuum.

Award winning applications will demonstrably improve, enhance or transform patient lives and will exhibit innovative, creative and “outside the box” thinking to address the gaps that exist to including the patient voice in the drug discovery and development continuum. To encourage greater breadth and variety in this year’s applications, participants select the level of grant they are applying for: $25,000, $50,000, $75,000 and $100,000. Awards will be selected by an independent judging panel to include innovation, healthcare and advocacy experts. Grants of up to $100,000 will be awarded, with the total of the 2015 program not to exceed $300,000. Celgene will provide non-monetary support by highlighting the winning organizations at company events and in company materials and through public relations efforts.
